Why macadamias are the ultimate vegan beauty product

Macadamia oil is great for your skin

Macadamias are a versatile vegan beauty product that can easily integrate into any skincare routine. And the best thing is, their beauty goes beyond skin deep.

Vegan beauty products are growing in popularity and it’s easy to see why. They offer beauty solutions that are good for both people and the planet, without harsh chemicals or animal testing.

While there is an increasing number of hi-tech vegan cosmetics and cosmeceuticals that are making big promises (with matching price tags), it’s exciting to learn there’s one plant-based beauty product hiding in your pantry that can pack the same power as some of the more expensive anti-aging creams out there!

That’s right, macadamias may very well be the ultimate vegan beauty product.

Here’s why:

Beauty from the inside out

Macadamias bring beauty benefits in multiple ways. In the first instance, they are a hugely nutritious food, packed full of antioxidants, micronutrients and prebiotics (AKA the good things that we should be eating but often miss in modern diets). These nutrients support heart, brain and gut health to give you a glow that comes from within. And what’s more, they are delicious! They are so easy to incorporate into any type of diet, including a vegan one. Their soft creaminess means they make great vegan alternatives to dairy products like milk, cheese and butter!

Vegan and versatile

While the nuts themselves work from the inside out, it’s the macadamia oil contained inside the nuts that is the key beauty ingredient. It can be used on its own as a lightweight moisturiser for the face, body, hair and nails. It is high in palmitoleic acid which restores youthful plumpness to the skin.

The oil also contains anti-inflammatory oleic acid to repair dry, sensitive skin and linoleic acid to lock in moisture without clogging pores. It is as simple as massaging the oil into parts of your hair, skin or nails that need an extra boost! However, we recommend buying cosmetic-grade macadamia oil for your beauty cabinet rather than grabbing your cooking oil. The cooking oil won’t hurt you, but the cosmetic ones have fewer impurities and less of a nutty scent.

Natural, recyclable packaging

Many vegan beauty products claim that their packaging is sustainable, recyclable or compostable. Still, when it comes to environmental credentials, it doesn’t get much better than the macadamia nutshell!

This super hard ‘natural packaging’ is completely sustainable. In fact, it is often composted on the farm where it grew as a mulch for macadamia trees. However, some farms and processors use the shells to make renewable energy for their packing and processing plants. How’s that for a circular economy?!

Macadamias are farmed sustainably

The macadamia industry has one of the best environmental track records in all of Australian agriculture. Australian macadamia farms use practices like integrated pest management to keep chemical use down, promote farm biodiversity, and actively conserve and regenerate the environment. So using macadamias and their oil in your vegan beauty routine is doubly good for the planet.

Easy to DIY

One of the benefits of vegan beauty products is their simplicity.

Whether you are eating the nuts to give you that inside-out glow or using their oil directly on your skin, macadamias are naturally simple. But it is also oh-so-easy to incorporate these ingredients into indulgent DIY products like scrubs, balms, and body oils.
