Diabetes-friendly

Macadamia nuts are an ideal food for those with diabetes or raised blood glucose levels.

Macadamias offer a tasty, satisfying way to support balanced blood glucose levels without compromising on flavour. With a glycaemic index (GI) of just 10, they’re a naturally low GI snack packed with healthy monounsaturated fats. Enjoying macadamias alongside carbohydrate rich foods – like breakfast cereal, rice dishes or fruit – can also help lower the overall GI of a meal by slowing digestion and the release of glucose into the bloodstream22

Good for blood sugar control

Thanks to their low carbohydrate content, plus a balance of healthy fats, protein and fibre, macadamias help moderate post meal blood glucose spikes. Research shows that eating nuts can improve blood glucose levels in people with type 2 diabetes, while nutrients like polyphenols and fibre in macadamias also support better insulin function. Their healthy fats work synergistically to reduce demand on insulin production, helping create a steadier insulin response22.

Diabetes management and prevention

Macadamias are also rich in manganese, providing 58% of the recommended daily intake per serve, a mineral linked to improved regulation of blood glucose levels.

Importantly, people with diabetes or pre diabetes face a higher risk of heart disease – but macadamias’ heart healthy nutrients support cardiovascular wellness too 24.

Beyond management, regular nut consumption may reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

A review of studies involving over 500,000 people found that eating 30 g of nuts at least four times a week lowered diabetes risk by 13% 25 – another great reason to enjoy a daily handful.28
