Wedded bliss… say ‘I do’ in a stunning macadamia orchard

Set among rolling hills in some of the Australia’s most lush and fertile hinterlands, the sprawling macadamia orchards around the border of NSW and QLD are beautiful places.

The orchards themselves are intriguing spots where light dances through the canopy above. The farm buildings often have breath-taking views over picturesque landscapes.

So it’s really no surprises that macadamia orchards are growing in popularity as wedding venues.

Not only do they provide a stunning backdrop for the nuptials and celebrations that follow, they also allow couples to showcase the beauty of subtropical Australia to their visiting friends and family. Many working farms and orchards are now hosting weddings for both local and international couples wanting a uniquely Australian venue.

Here are some of the highlights of being married in an orchard:

Breath-taking views

The Orchard Estate, in the NSW Byron Bay hinterland, looks out over the breath-taking Nightcap mountain ranges. It is a working macadamia farm with an attractive purpose build barn that includes a commercial kitchen to suit a range of reception styles.

Secret groves

Just a short drive from the centre of Bundaberg in Queensland, The Grove is situated on a sprawling family property. The main wedding venue is surrounded by a macadamia plantation, although there are many other secret spots around the property that can be used to create a beautiful backdrop in which say ‘I do’.

Farm-style food

The food at Three Blue Ducks at The Farm, Byron Bay always features locally grown macadamias, and their own macadamia orchard has views of both the hinterland and the iconic Byron Bay lighthouse. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor options for both the ceremony and reception.

Romantic Photography

A macadamia orchard also offers the wedding photographer endless possibilities to capture romantic images of the day. Sarah Hughes from Bye Bye BlackBird Photography, who often shoots weddings in these locales, loves working with the light that a macadamia orchard provides. “The possibilities are limitless” she says. “In an orchard, it doesn’t matter what the weather is like. Overcast days are magical with shadow, but on sunny days the light streams through the trees in such a beautiful way.”
