Do you and Mrs Romance celebrate Valentine’s Day?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We usually do something small and fun for Valentine\u2019s Day – nothing too ostentatious. Maybe a favourite meal at home with a good bottle of wine. We\u2019re more about celebrating anniversaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can you share a few ideas or tips for a fun Valentine’s Day?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

People put themselves under so much pressure when it comes to Valentine\u2019s Day. Even expensive restaurants (which often become even more expensive) tend to serve set menus and don\u2019t do their best work on February 14th. Tropes like a bunch of roses and a Hallmark card don\u2019t cut it either. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But romance doesn\u2019t have to and shouldn\u2019t be all big gestures and deeds. Instead, make Valentine\u2019s Day more personal. Instead, drive to your favourite beach, watch a movie that means something to you both, cook a meal that the other person craves but rarely gets to eat or sit down and work on your next set of travel plans together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do you like to cook at home?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I enjoy making a big Indian curry. Lots of dishes – as many as I can fit on the hob and in the oven. I think it\u2019s one of the things I miss most from England! Christina makes an amazing risotto and can somehow knock one up in no time. It\u2019s our go-to meal when we\u2019ve run out of dinner ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s the one ingredient you can\u2019t live without?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Cheese! I always look for an excuse to add it in. That, and smoky paprika.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where is your favourite place to eat, anywhere in the world?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I still dream about the octopus I had in Apulia<\/a>. I don\u2019t know what they do to it, but those south-eastern Italians are geniuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christina would happily spend the rest of her life eating everywhere in Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you remember when you first tried a macadamia?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I think it was in 2005… I was offered a chocolate-coated macadamia. I thought it was some kind of strange giant Aussie malteser at first. How wrong I was!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s your favourite way to enjoy macadamias?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I still love a chocolate-covered maca, although I make a dukkah with macadamias<\/a> that\u2019s so tasty. I\u2019ve also adapted Australian Macadamias\u2019 recipe for macadamia shortbread cookies<\/a> that\u2019s always popular with our family, friends, neighbours. Everyone actually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s your favourite TV show or movie right now?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve just finished re-watching Schitt\u2019s Creek. Such a funny, cleverly written show. We\u2019re also massive fans of Taskmaster. Funniest show on TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you were an ice cream what flavour would you be?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019d like to think I\u2019d be some kind of affogato – a mixture of cold, sweet ice cream and hot, bitter coffee\u2026 that\u2019s probably a window into my personality you don\u2019t need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christina says she\u2019d be a caramel swirl with praline. A surprise in every bite!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
