GI is the measure of how quickly a food can raise your blood glucose levels. High GI is considered to be over 70. The GI of macadamias is only 10.<\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div>Too many nutrient-poor, high GI carbohydrate-containing foods can upset your metabolism and lead to high blood glucose levels. Nuts like macadamias can work against this. When added to carbohydrate-containing meals or snacks, they actually reduce blood glucose levels.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.australian-macadamias.org\/zh\/health-and-wellbeing-references\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener\">43<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0For example, white bread has a high GI, but spreading the same white bread with macadamia butter reduces the GI. A review of studies found that eating nuts helps improve glycemic control (blood glucose levels)<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.australian-macadamias.org\/zh\/health-and-wellbeing-references\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener\">22<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0in people with type 2 diabetes. Adding nuts to carbohydrate-rich foods actually lowers the glycemic index (GI) of that meal or snack, which is good news for people with diabetes.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.australian-macadamias.org\/zh\/health-and-wellbeing-references\/\"><sup>43<\/sup><\/a><\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div>Nuts help with diabetes prevention as well. An analysis of multiple studies involving 500,000 people found eating 30g of nuts four times a week reduced the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 13%.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.australian-macadamias.org\/zh\/health-and-wellbeing-references\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener\">25<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0People with diabetes or pre-diabetes are at greater risk of heart disease.
